Did you miss me?
I’m here with another book update for you. Missed the previous two? There you go - Books & Books # 2.
So…Let’s see what we have here.
As planned, I read “Vampires, Scones and Edmund Herondale” by Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan. It was fantastic. So far, this is my favourite part of "The Bane Chronicles". I was delighted to learn more about Will’s parents – young Edmund Herondale and Linette Owens - how they met and fell in love. I’m not going to spoil you but you definitely have to read “The Infernal Devices” series before reading this particular short story of “The Bane Chronicles”. Both series are amazing and I strongly recommend them. Once you dive into the shadow hunter world Cassandra Clare has created, there’s no turning back. |
I’ll be starting “The Midnight Heir” soon (4th part of “The Bane Chronicles”). This one mentions 16 year-old James Herondale (Will’s son). Chronologically, it must be after “The Infernal Devices”. I don’t know what to expect but I sure am excited. Plus, I can’t wait to read “City of Heavenly Fire” - the last installment of “The Mortal Instruments” series which is expected to be published on May 27th 2014. Well…277 days to go. Isn’t that a torture? But as people say, patience is a virtue, so I’ll wait…patiently. |
Moving on to another series and author altogether, I present to you the “Seven Realms” by Cinda Williams Chima. So this series consist of four parts – “The Demon King”, “The Exiled Queen”, “The Gray Wolf Throne” and “The Crimson Crown”.
As most of the books I’ve read through the last 5 or 6 months, these, too, were recommended to me by my boyfriend. (Thank you, sunshine.) The story is marvelous and unpredictable, the characters are fascinating and I enjoyed the way everything was written. I believe switching between the two main protagonists’ points of view really contributes to the charm of the series. The finale was satisfactory, although everything happened a bit too hasty at the end. Or perhaps I just didn’t want it to end. I wish there were more books to this series. I want to read more about Han and Raisa.
After that I decided to take a little break from the fantasy genre so I read the first and the second book of the “Anna and the French Kiss” trilogy by Stephanie Perkins. It took me 2 days to read the first book – “Anna and the French Kiss”. Easy, fast and enjoyable read. I loved the Parisian atmosphere. I also appreciated the lack of excessive drama, although there were some parts of the book I didn’t particularly like. Nevertheless, I pulled an all-nighter to finish it because I couldn’t put it down. |
I read the second book - “Lola and the Boy Next Door”- in 3 days. I didn’t like it as much as the first one but it was still fun to read. The third book – “Isla and the Happy Ever After” - is to be published on May 13th 2014. What I like about this trilogy is that every book revolves around a different protagonist and his unique story. However, the characters from the first book were present and played a role in the second book. So I expect to see Anna, Étienne, Lola and Cricket in the third book. |
I’m curious about how the author will integrate them and how the series will end. We’ll have to wait and see.
Now back to the present. Currently, I’m reading “The Illustrated Practical Guide to Digital and Classic Photography” by Steve Luck and John Freeman – an absolutely gorgeous book. I started it back in August 2012, but kind of abandoned it after a while. So now I’m resuming from where I left off. Although I think I’ll re-read the other chapters as well. I really want to finish this book. Like REALLY! So wish me luck. |
To finish this post, here is what you’ll find on my “To-Read” list:
